First of all I’m embarrassed to say that I never learned to cook. And after 2 extremely traumatizing (yet pretty funny) cooking adventures experiences, I had officially given up. I admit that I’m not necessarily a fan of being in the kitchen.
I was the eat-out queen. Until the 2 times I decided I would attempt to be a “chef”. Enter my 2 sad attempts at cooking, which I so lovingly like to call my cooking “adventures”.
Cooking Adventures #1
It started off as an exciting day. While I don’t know what got into me, I was determined to make a dish in the oven to surprise my boyfriend (now husband). I turned on the oven, in went the food and I went to my bedroom. I had all the confidence in the world that in 30 minutes we would have a professional-looking meal that I proudly made myself.
But it seems life had other plans. Next thing I hear is the fire alarm blaring. I open the bedroom door where all I could see is smoke. I run into the kitchen to find flames coming out of the oven! Fortunately we were able to put out the fire and staring back at me was a melted stove. I wanted to cry!
Cooking Adventures #2
Fast forward a few years. Take 2 of trying to cook, I was again trying to surprise my husband. He’s health conscious so I wanted to make him a treat and thought I’d make him some baked sweet potato fries. How hard can it be, right? I learned my lesson from the melted stove, don’t veer too far from the oven. I’ve got this!
I kept looking at the clock and apparently stared at the clock too hard because I still burned the potatoes triggering the fire alarm. UGH!And not just our fire alarm, oh no, I set off the ENTIRE building’s fire alarm. Everyone evacuated. I was mortified. I swore to give up cooking forever.
Let’s Try Again
So, here we are. I have finally mustered up the guts to attempt again. And with some success, mind you. I’m SO excited to share everything I’ve learned with you! Stay tuned as I put together all the tips and tricks that have helped me overcome this hurdle (aka fear). Haha! In the meantime, check out these easy recipes that don’t require you to cook at all.
If you’re a chef or cook meals regularly this may not be for you (although sometimes taking a step back could conjure up some new creative ideas). I’m mostly talking to the ones who never learned to cook. Those of us who can barely make toast. Those of us who need to google practically every little thing in a recipe. Those of us who would rather pick up a phone than a pot. My mission is to help you as you embark on your own cooking adventures, successfully.
Most of all, I want you to come with me on my journey and we can learn together! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions you’d like me to cover or if you have any tips (I’m always all ears for those!).
Hugs & Gratitude,
