When I travel, I like to be comfortable. I also want to look decent (though sometimes I wished I was a bit more fashionable!). Who wants to be uncomfortable on a cross-country or transatlantic flight?! I have my go-to comfortable travel outfit that I like to wear on the plane. It’s comfortable, breathable and can be dressed up or down. Here is what I usually wear and why.
At no additional cost to you, I may make a small commission if you click and purchase through some of the links below. You are helping others as proceeds will be donated to charities. I’m so grateful for your support, thank you!
PANT
Wearing black pants when you travel is the way to go and should be a staple for your travel outfit. These Oakley pants are breathable and stretchy. And if you’re anything like me (ahem, clumsy) you’ll appreciate the quick-dry material and the fact that they’re black to cover up any stains. You’ll look good as new when you land.
SHOE
I always wear sneakers when traveling, especially when I have a layover. You never know when you’ll be delayed and have to sprint across airports to catch your next flight. You’ll be thankful to have these as part of your travel outfit. BTW there’s nothing like landing late and finding out your connecting flight is clear across on the other side of the airport! These sneakers are super cute, comfortable and light, perfect to run in to catch your flight.
TOP
A grey v-neck t-shirt is my go-to pick for a top on travel days. They’re great to layer in (I layer it with a tank top underneath) and top it with a hoodie (more on that next).
We all know airplanes rarely get cleaned. But no one ever thinks about just how dirty the seats really are (yuck!). Call me a germaphobe, but I can’t rest easy on those seats without covering up with a hoodie. The green one I’m wearing I had gotten at Target YEARS ago (no longer available) but here’s a good equivalent from Amazon. If you’ve never tried a long hoodie, I highly suggest you do! And when choosing a hoodie, pick one with a zipper so you can zip/unzip as you get hot/cold on the flight. There’s no room to constantly take on/off a pullover.
HAT
On my most recent flight I realized I needed to start incorporating a hat into my travel wardrobe (especially during those super early flights!). I managed to throw my hair up in a bun but would have preferred to have left my curls flow and thrown on a hat. There’s something so cozy about a suede baseball cap. I have one in teal but am eyeballing this grey one (I’m sure by now you can tell I like grey!).
DRESS IT UP
You can make this outfit an instant dinner outfit. Ditch the hoodie, throw on some heels, freshen up your makeup and you’re set to head straight to dinner. You can even pull-up the black pants to reveal the shoe more and get a bit more stylish.
If you plan to travel, especially abroad, I hope this versatile travel outfit comes in handy for you as it has for me the past few years. What do you like to wear when you’re flying and traveling?

I always wear slip on flats. Comfortable pants and top are a must. Makes for a more comfortable flight.
Yes, slip ons are great! Luckily I can slip the adidas on and off without needing to untie them. 🙂
I agree that hoodies are a must! Slip on shoes are great, and dark pants work well in case you hit turbulence and spill anything on your pants. 🙂 Neutrals are also nice!
Yes!! Slip ons are so great! And I’m amazed at how many people get on the plane without a hoodie/sweater/anything!
I love the fact that you said black pants, no stain. That hits way too close to home! Great suggestions, makes me want to travel!
With my clumsiness, black pants are a must!
This is basically my everyday look. haha. I have to be comfy on a plane though. You have all the must haves here.
LOL! It’s pretty much my everyday look too!
I love this! I’m always surprised to see people so dressed up at airports sometimes. Haha. To each their own, but I’m all about being comfy on the plane.
Right?! I have no idea how they don’t want to be comfortable. I even see some in stiletoos…I would not survive!
Such a timeless and great look for traveling! You can just land and go if you need. Love it!
Thank you! Exactly, land and go. Efficient!
